Harry J Palmer enter into one of the UK's first-ever formal management agreements to protect a bat roost.
In order to secure planning for our development at Horton Fields, the Company entered into one of the UK's first-ever formal management agreements to protect a bat roost.
Preliminary surveys showed that one of the three barns has been a roost for three bat species (Natterers', Pipistrelle and brown long-eared). The Management Agreement between ourselves and the Dorset Bat Group was required in order to secure planning for the site.
As a result, a bat roost is to be created at the end of one of the barns, and in cooperation with the house owner it's use will be monitored.
The Agreement has been groundbreaking and required consultation between our planning consultants Terence O'Rourke, English Nature, the Bat Conservation Trust and the Dorset Wildlife Trust.
